Guy and Keidron

When Guy's son was hospitalized with leukemia last fall, Guy lost his full-time
job because of missed work. Without a second income, Guy and Keidron weren't
able to pay their rent.  When their electricity and water were disconnected,
five-year-old Anna and eleven-month old Thomas were placed in foster care.
Through the Lafayette Transitional Housing Center Family Program, however, they were given a second chance.

As guy explains, "Through Lafayette Transitional Housing, we were able to move into housing through their self-sufficiency program.  Now we can be a family."  Keidron tearfully remembers the day her kids were returned to them.  "For the six months they were gone, I was miserable. Now I can be the mom I'm supposed to be.  This place has helped us so much."

As Guy and Keidron search for work, they have the support and encouragement of the Lafayette Transitional Housing Center staff.  this young family no longer has to worry about food, clothing or housing.  Instead, they can focus on their family and on moving forward.

Six years ago, Ron could have been any one of us.  married with a family, a
home, and his own business, Ron remembers, "I had it all. I was on top of the
world."  Then Ron's world fell apart, and he walked away from it all.  Building
a new life wasn't easy, and Ron found himself homeless.  Having nowhere to go, Ron lived in his truck for five months, wondering where he would sleep and when he would eat again.  as winter grew colder, Ron sustained himself on whatever he could find, sometimes having only cat food or bread to live on.  Finally, when Ron was out of hope, he found his way to a local hospital.

There Ron learned about the Lafayette Transitional Housing Center.  With the support and encouragement of the Center's staff, Ron joined the Singles Program and found hope for the future.  With his caseworker's support, Ron tackled many barriers to self-sufficiency. He received referrals to other agencies and set goals for the future.  Two years later, Ron is employed full-time and living on his own.

"I am grateful for the compassionate, dedicated people at the Lafayette
Transitional Housing Center.  They believed in me and encouraged me," says
Ron.  "Help is right here."

Sam

Sam remembers, "I would have never thought this could happen to me, but it can
happen to anyone." Looking back on the assistance she received, Sam says, "The
Lafayette Transitional Housing Center was there for me mentally, physically,
and financially.  I didn't have any money so they helped me with clothing,
household needs and food." Sam and her children especially loved the welcoming
environment.  "I'm just glad to have this place to help my family.  They are
very family-oriented."
